Agee Clymer Mitchell & Portman is pleased to announce that attorney Katherine “Kitty” Ivan was honored as the 2016 Capital University Law School “Graduate of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.)” Award winner during the Eleventh Annual Alumni Recognition Luncheon on Friday, April 22, 2016. Dean Rachel M. Janutis presented the award to Kitty.

The G.O.L.D Award is given annually to a Capital University Law School JD “Graduate of the Last Decade” who has made significant  achievements in his/her occupation and has made notable contributions to the legal profession and/or the Law School. Kitty graduated from Capital with her J.D. in 2010.

Kitty continues to be involved with Capital as a practice judge for Moot Court teams and serves as a mentor through the Women’s Law Association Mentorship program. In addition, Kitty manages the law clerk department at ACMP, currently comprised of five current Capital University Law School students.

In acceptance of the award, Kitty thanked her family, friends, and the partners at ACMP. She also thanked the Alumni Board selection committee and Capital teaching her how to write, how to be a successful oral advocate on an appeal case through the moot court program, and for assistance to pass the bar through Capital’s Advanced Bar Studies course.

At ACMP, Kitty focuses her practice on workers’ compensation, personal injury, and social security disability. Kitty has successfully litigated appellate cases before the 10th District Court of Appeals, won jury trials, succeeded in VSSR hearings, and represented injured workers in countless Industrial Commission Hearings across Ohio.

Kitty is an active leader and member of the legal community. Since 2013, Kitty has served as the Columbus Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Committee Chair. In recognition for these efforts, she was awarded the Columbus Bar Association President’s Award in June 2015. Kitty currently serves as Treasurer for both the Women Lawyers of Franklin County and the Ohio State Bar Association Women in the Profession Section. Kitty is also serves on the Ohio State Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Section BWC Committee and has presented in OSBA Advanced Workers’ Compensation CLEs around the state. As an at-large board member of the Ohio Association for Justice, she testifies as an expert before legislative committees on pending workers’ compensation legislation, represents injured worker’s interests on the Industrial Commission Rules Advisory committee, and she often speaks to other injured worker attorneys at OAJ continuing education seminars across the state. For these efforts, OAJ presented Kitty with the Workers’ Compensation Outstanding Achievement Award in May 2015. Kitty is the New Lawyer Chair and the Membership Chair of the Central Ohio Association for Justice. Kitty was recognized as a Rising Star by Ohio Super Lawyers Magazine in 2016 and has been named a “Top Lawyer” by Columbus C.E.O. Magazine in 2015 and 2016. Kitty has been quoted in articles relating to workers’ compensation in the Columbus Dispatch and has been a guest speaker on America’s Workforce Radio. Kitty is also a member of the Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group, the American Association for Justice, the Ohio Women’s Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association Litigation Section and Young Lawyers Section, the Columbus Bar Association New Lawyer Committee, the Ohio Association for Justice Women’s Caucus.
